The Vransko lake is actually a flooded valley with a number of small springs that provide fresh water for the lake. This is the area protected as a special reservation and important bird area. It is a home to 241 bird species, some of them are very rare, and more than 100 000 birds come here to spend the winter. The lake has been declared as a nature park in 1999.
The main attraction for visitors here in addition to natural beauty is sport fishing because the lake is full of fish. Here is the only place in Croatia where the Mediterranean subspecies of Rudd can be found. Sport fishing is allowed in any part of the lake, except the strict reservation area.
